5 Random Ways to make Money for the Lazy Ones

If you have read any of my other posts, you probably know that I am a recent college graduate that is running out of money. Technically I graduated a year ago in December 2015, but my school only has one official ceremony per year which is May, so I stayed in San Diego until then. Some volunteering was done, I got to stay a member of my acapella group SoundWave, and had many friends come and visit before I moved back home. I traveled for a few months after formally walking, then I found myself moved back in with my parents and unemployed.

I have been job hunting on and off, but a part of me wants to book a one-way flight to, well, anywhere. Some money is saved up from college, but that can go away fast while traveling. This led to me googling late at night the weirdest ways to make money without having to do much at all. Every day, I deal with that constant struggle to give a full-time job a chance, but I’ve slowly become committed to finding extra ways to earn some extra cash just in case.

If you are a millennial like me, you are probably pretty social media savvy. I mean, you somehow found this blog post, so even if you ain’t a millennial, props to you! You might as well put your social media skills to use and start getting paid while not even having to leave the house. My brother recently told me that he knows a few people who approach small businesses who may need a little boost, and they offer to create and manage social media pages for them and post regularly to it. Most times, they post for free for a few weeks to show that they will be an asset to the company and can increase (or start) social media engagement in a small amount of time. After proving their worth, the companies start paying them and voila! Generally, I have heard people can make $1000+ per month, so imagine managing the social media accounts for a few different companies. That right there can make you the equivalent of a full-time job or even more if you are really committed!

Social Media Marketing is something that I would possibly like to start earning an income for, but it is not for everyone. People are good at posting their own content, whether relationship status updates on Facebook or daily #ooft selfies on Instagram, but it is a whole different world to focus on a target market for a specific brand. There is a lot more to Social Media Marketing than you would guess, so if this interests you, I’d start joining Facebook groups and take online courses from professionals to start out!

Alright, hear me out on this one. I am sure that just like me, you get annoying surveys that appear in your inbox. These emails generally say that if you fill out the survey, you will be entered into a drawing. Well, these are not the type of surveys I am talking about. When I say “online surveys”, I mean sign up for a site that gives you points that get cashed in for money when you complete a survey!

It has been 8 years since I signed up for Global Test Market and I still find myself taking surveys when I am bored. I tried so many other sites before Global Test Market, and none even compare. I get surveys in my inbox daily that I can choose whether to take or not. The majority of surveys give you 30 points, but I have gotten anywhere between 10 to 1000 points for 1 survey. 1200 points cashes in for $50 as a check or straight to your PayPal, but you can cash out anytime you want. To get 30 “marketpoints”, it usually requires you to take about a 15-minute survey. Since 1200 points=$50, 1200/30=40 surveys then 50/40=$1.25 per 30 points or you can say about $1.25 per 15 minutes. (Yes, I love math. Surprise surprise.) That is not bad at all if you can do these surveys whenever the hell you feel like it, plus, many are fun! You do not have to redeem your points for cash; there are other options such as donating to charities or magazine subscriptions, but I always go for the straight-up cash.

I have done surveys focused on all types of topics, from movies to video games to batteries. I have watched a pilot episode for a new TV series and rated it, which was really fun. The majority of surveys are solely online, but every once in a while, I get a product testing one, where I get something sent to my house to test. The most memorable things I got to test were a hair conditioner and a new brand of cereal. I also one time did a video call with about 10 other people and did a “focus group” about a legal matter. All of these experiences that were more than just online surveys are the ones I got around 500 points for which is the equivalent of almost $21! It is an easy way to make some extra cash in your free time, whether you are in bed and cannot sleep, or during commercials of a tv program. Click this link to register if you are interested.

Ever since I started this blog a little over a month ago, I have consistently been joining new groups on social media and reading articles to help kick-start my blog. I first started this blog because I have so much going through my head every day and feel like post-college is the time you think most about what you should do in life and reflect on growing up. When I launched this site, my only intention was to write funny posts about the experiences and thoughts I encounter as a recent college graduate so that people could laugh and relate to my life. Well after reading different articles on ways to monetize from you blog, I plan to start using those suggestions.

The main ways to monetize from your blog are:

  1. Affiliate Marketing
  2. Ads
  3. Sponsorships

I am still learning, but here is a quick summary of what each is:

Affiliate Marketing: you can work with a business or platform to help promote their products or services. You are given links to put on your website so when people click those links and end up buying something from your affiliate, you will get a percentage of the sale.

ADS: Similar to Affiliate Marketing, you can apply to different programs like “Google Adsense” but generally need a bigger following to be approved. I am still looking into this monetizing strategy but people tend to recommend Affiliate Marketing and Sponsorships over ads.

SPONSORSHIPS: Ever since I heard about this amazing girl, I’ve become very interested in sponsorships. You can contact companies, or they will find you, and they can send you free products or pay you to promote them to your followers. You can get sponsors for just about anything; hotels, airlines, products like GoPro’s, a company that makes travel gear, excursion companies, you name it. To see examples of sponsors, just go to Expedition 196’s Website and look under the “Sponsors” tab. This girl is living the dream.

No, I do not mean be a prostitute. Get your mind out of the gutter! Legit sell stuff that comes from your body. Not like your freaking ear or something, but plasma or eggs! I personally am a little weirded out by this, but to each his own. I heard somewhere that you can get up to $50 per time you donate plasma. If you do not know what plasma is, just look it up. Anything involving blood or bodily fluids grosses me out, but if you are fine with it, go for it! To find a center near you, search here.

You can also donate all your baby-making cells to make a lot of cash. And I mean a lot. Like THOUSANDS for donating your eggs. Donating sperm is around the price of donating plasma…sorry dudes. At least it is still something!

Every once in a while, on my Facebook feed, I see advertisements for fitness studies coming up. You have to meet certain requirements and live in a specific place, but you can get paid to go through a transformative process for a few weeks. I never looked really into it because I live a little too far from where the study was, but I know they monitor your progress along the way and see if their strategies actually produce a good result.

Another study that I have been tempted to participate in is a sleep study. Some are for different conditions or certain age groups, but others you just have to be willing to be tested. They all vary from staying in a hospital for a few days to having to come once a week for many weeks. You can find a sleep facility by you here. They may post on their website about upcoming studies, or you may have to contact the facility directly to ask. It is all up to you!

So there you have it! 5 random ways to make money that are not necessarily full-time jobs and that you do not have to put as much effort into doing. Now don’t get me wrong; I am sure there are people that put a lot of effort into making money these ways, so don’t be offended if one of these things is a way you make a living. Good for you if you do! Have you done any of these things to make some extra cash or are you now thinking about doing any of these things? Or is there something that I missed that you think should be on the list? Let me know!

But let’s be honest; stop being a lazy butt and get up and find a job. Yes, I am talking to myself.
